Best Apple deal: Save $400 on the Apple Studio Display

SAVE $400: As of July 15, the Apple Studio Display is on sale for $1,499.99 at Amazon. That’s a 21% saving on the list price.

I love a good deal on an Apple product, especially as we leave the Prime Day madness behind. So this huge discount on the Apple Studio Display really caught my eye. As of July 15, you can save $400 on the tilt-adjustable stand, nano-textured glass model. This isn’t just its lowest price this year, it’s the lowest price in well over a year, last reaching this price in April 2024 (according to camelcamelcamel).

It’s a seriously high-quality screen, too; it boasts a 27-inch 5K Retina display with 600 nits of brightness, P3 wide color, and support for a billion colors, so everything you do will look really sharp and vibrant. It’s got a 12MP Ultra Wide camera with Apple’s Center Stage, meaning your video calls stay focused on you, even if you move around.

One in 10 children screened in UNRWA clinics are malnourished, UN Palestinian refugee agency says

GENEVA (Reuters) – One in 10 children screened in clinics run by the United Nations refugee agency in Gaza since 2024 has been malnourished, the agency said on Tuesday.

“Our health teams are confirming that malnutrition rates are increasing in Gaza, especially since the siege was tightened more than four months ago on the second of March,” UNRWA’s Director of Communications, Juliette Touma, told reporters in Geneva via a video link from Amman, Jordan.

Since January 2024, UNRWA said it had screened more than 240,000 boys and girls under the age of five in its clinics, adding that before the war, acute malnutrition was rarely seen in the Gaza Strip.

“One nurse that we spoke to told us that in the past, he only saw these cases of malnutrition in textbooks and documentaries,” Touma said.

“Medicine, nutrition supplies, hygiene material, fuel are all rapidly running out,” Touma said.

On May 19, Israel lifted an 11-week aid blockade on Gaza, allowing limited UN deliveries to resume. However, UNRWA continues to be banned from bringing aid into the enclave.

Israel and the United States have accused Palestinian group Hamas of stealing from UN-led aid operations – which Hamas denies. They have instead set up the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, using private US security and logistics firms to transport aid to distribution hubs, which the UN has refused to work with.

On Monday, UNICEF said that last month more than 5,800 children were diagnosed with malnutrition in Gaza, including more than 1,000 children with severe, acute malnutrition. It said it was an increase for the fourth month in a row.

  • Tsolov aiming to take title fight to the wire with he and Campos Racing at their “maximum”

Tsolov aiming to take title fight to the wire with he and Campos Racing at their “maximum”

Title contender Nikola Tsolov has been one of the star performers so far in 2025, and it’s no wonder the Bulgarian is carrying a lot of confidence into the final three rounds.

While the Campos Racing driver hasn’t enjoyed as much success as earlier in the season over the latest two rounds, he is confident that he will be turning his form around sooner rather than later.

Speaking ahead of Round 8, Tsolov dived into why he’s been finding his form much more consistently this year, what the biggest difference is compared to previous seasons and the title fight.

“It’s been getting better every round,” the 18-year-old explained. “There’s clearly progress and that is what we want to see. I think Spielberg was the best one so far. So I hope to keep going like that and consistently have rounds like that.

“Obviously, it’s a little bit of a setback with disqualification, but I thought we were really closing the fight until then. I’m just looking at myself, trying to keep doing what I’ve been doing, so let’s see how it ends up.”

    Years of learning

Tsolov has found his feet in F3 and is performing at the top of his game in 2025

Tsolov arrived on the F3 grid as a 16-year-old, and as one of the youngest drivers to make the step up. Since then, he has achieved the most wins in Championship history, and is fighting for the title in his third campaign.

The Red Bull Junior Team driver has come a long way then, and he himself says that the first year in F3 was a steep learning curve to overcome. Now though, those tougher experiences have helped him compete at the level he’s currently performing at.

“When I came in, I’d just turned 16, so I’ve changed a lot”

“It’s quite funny. I rushed into F3, so I was pretty young when I got in, with no prep, no experience, which was tough. But I’m still one of the youngest, but now with a lot of experience, which is good for me.

“When I came in, I’d just turned 16, so I’ve changed a lot. Every six months you’re different. The level of commitment to the sport and the amount of stuff I’ve managed to learn over the three years, I mean, I’ve had so many difficulties, which was good, because I have them now, so later on, I’ll know how to deal with every situation.

“It has made me learn so much, and I think I’ve built a lot of reputation and a lot of experience around here. So that’s going to be good for my next steps.”

    Catching in the title fight

A return to Campos has brought about renewed confidence
A return to Campos has brought about renewed confidence

Following the first two rounds of 2025, Tsolov was fifth in the Standings, 33 points behind two-time Feature Race winner Rafael Câmara. It looked at that point as though the Brazilian was about to run away with the season.

Since then, however, Tsolov has added four podiums, including a Feature Race win in Monte Carlo, and he is a major contender in the title race based on current form.

While the gap remains 29 points following his Spielberg disqualification for a technical infringement, he believes that the difference is surmountable before the chequered flag falls in Monza.

“I think it is a big gap, but it’s only two points more than what I arrived in Spielberg with, and I still closed it down to one point (before the disqualification). So it was a special weekend, because you don’t have many of them, and a weekend that he wasn’t performing at his usual.

“I consider myself being more competitive in the second half of the year”

“There are still three rounds, so that’s six races. I consider myself being more competitive in the second half of the year, always. So that’s a good thing for me. He had a great start, but I think we can still put on pressure and close the gap.

“But at the moment, like I said, I’m only focusing on what I can do better, what I can do to keep doing weekends like Spielberg, and then how I end up is just the consequences of that.

    Improvements with Campos

The Red Bull Junior Team driver believes the Championship is still on despite the points difference
The Red Bull Junior Team driver believes the Championship is still on despite the points difference

Having won the Spanish F4 crown with the team, 2025 marked a reunion between Tsolov and Campos, as he returned to the Spanish outfit for year three in F3.

It looks to have been a shrewd move by both parties, as they lead the Teams’ Standings with all three drivers having taken a victory following Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak and Mari Boya’s wins at Silverstone.

Tsolov says that this year has been a quick re-learning process, and now they are firing on all cylinders as we head into the business end of the calendar.

READ MORE: WHAT WE LEARNED: The big lessons from Round 7 at Silverstone

“It’s a learning process with the new car. I think I got on with it pretty well from the get-go, especially in testing. Obviously, luck hasn’t been completely on our side, let’s put it that way, which you need a lot in this Championship.

“We’ve been first, second, first and first in the last few rounds in quali, the closest anyone’s been to Rafa. And I think is what we’re looking to keep doing,

“There are a few keys, obviously, the environment I’m in with Red Bull is helping me and preparing me in a much more professional kind of way, so I know what I need to do in every situation, how to deal with every situation, how to give better feedback to the team.

“Then, with Campos, I have a good history. My engineer – we work really well together, and we only say the right stuff to each other and keep progressing. Everything’s been clicking, and at this point, I would say we’re quite high to the maximum potential we can reach.

“I had two years away from the team, and then it takes a while to get back in momentum, which is a really big key. The first one is always the more most difficult, with wins, with poles, with good results. So once you do it one time, then the second time is easier, the third time is even easier.”

    Eyes on the prize

The Bulgarian says both Spa and Budapest should suit him and Campos
The Bulgarian says both Spa and Budapest should suit him and Campos

Heading to the final three rounds of the season, Tsolov faces an uphill, but not impossible fightback in the standings.

With TRIDENT’s Câmara still leading the way, the Brazilian has looked strong, but not uncatchable according to his rivals, Tsolov included.

The Bulgarian driver believes that upcoming circuits should suit him and Campos, however Qualifying will prove the difference-maker come the end of the year.

“I think the next few tracks are quite good for me. Spa is a track I really love. I didn’t get to race there last year, unfortunately, but it’s a track I get on pretty well with.

“And then Budapest – I’ve got good history and always been quick there. Then Monza is just a casino, so you need a bit of luck there as well. So you never know. I think it’s a good few tracks that we can keep the momentum going into the end of the year.

“I think right now, we have the consistency, but Qualifying is so important. It’s pretty much everything because then race pace, we have it.”

  • Bitcoin price fueled by billions in traditional money coming from Wall Street

Bitcoin price fueled by billions in traditional money coming from Wall Street

    • Bitcoin has surged over 25% year-to-date, reaching record highs above $122,000, fueled by massive inflows from Wall Street, including $85 billion from new Bitcoin ETFs over the last year or so. The influx of traditional capital is also reducing Bitcoin’s volatility. The declining value of the U.S. dollar is helping too.

Across the world, since the lows of April, equity markets have risen robustly, delivering a historic bull rally. The broad market S&P 500 is up 6.58% year-to-date. But that looks feeble next to Bitcoin, which made new record highs yesterday, cresting over $122,000 per coin. Bitcoin is down over 2% this morning as speculators lock in their gains, but the cryptocurrency is still up over 25% year to date.

Interestingly, it hit that milestone with lower volatility than its historic record, according to research by Deutsche Bank.

There are a bunch of reasons for this, of course, including the Trump Administration’s regulatory support for crypto. But the fundamental cause of Bitcoin’s rise is old-fashioned fiat cash coming in from the traditional finance sector, DB’s Marion Laboure and Camilla Siazon wrote in a note seen by Fortune.

    The sums are staggering.

    • There were $35 billion in inflows from new Bitcoin ETFs offered by Wall Street funds in 2024.
    • There were $50 billion more inflows this year so far.
    • “Last Thursday alone saw a single-day inflow of $1.17bn into US Bitcoin ETFs,” the DB analysts say.
    • BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust alone holds $80 billion—it has only been in existence for 18 months.
    • It took SPDR Gold Shares ETF 15 years to hit that level.

The steady influx of traditional money has reduced Bitcoin’s volatility—an asset that has on multiple occasions lost the majority of its value. “This sharp increase via ETF inflows has helped with Bitcoin’s liquidity and kept the crypto trading in a relatively tighter range compared to previous years,” Laboure and Siazon say.

There’s one other factor fuelling Bitcoin: The declining U.S. dollar. The dollar has lost nearly 10% of its value against foreign currencies this year on the DXY index. Investors are looking to store cash elsewhere. “With the US signing their tax bill into law this month, effectively locking in deficits of 6.5% -7% of GDP for the next few years, we have started witnessing a de-dollarisation trend (the dollar index is down almost -10% YTD) pushing investors toward alternative assets like gold and Bitcoin,” the note says.

Here’s a snapshot of the action prior to the opening bell in New York:

    • A Consumer Price Index update is due at 8.30 a.m. ET. The current rate is 2.4%, analysts expect a 0.3% increase to 2.7%.
    • S&P 500 futures rose 0.31% premarket and the underlying index rose 0.65% yesterday.
    • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 1.6% this morning.
    • Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.55%.
    • Stoxx Europe 600 added 0.3% in early trading.
    • The UK’s FTSE 100 was flat in early trading but poised to break through the 9,000 level for the first time.
    • Bitcoin sank 2.56% to $116K.

A Systematic Survey of LU Domain-Containing Proteins Reveals a Novel Human Gene, LY6A, Which Encodes the Candidate Ortholog of Mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1 and Is Aberrantly Expressed in Pituitary Tumors

Newswise — Since its discovery in the late 1970s, the lymphocyte antigen 6 (Ly-6) family has garnered significant attention as a prototype for the concept of “differentiation antigens.” Ly-6 antigens contain a conserved LU domain, with some members featuring a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor that allows attachment to the cell membrane. Mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1 is widely used as a surface marker for various stem cells; however, a direct homolog has not been identified in the human genome.

A collaborative study by Saijuan Chen, Jinyan Huang, Zhebao Wu, Xiaojian Sun, et al. from Ruijin Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and colleagues, has revealed a novel human gene, LY6A. Through systematic investigation and comparative genomic studies of LU domain proteins in humans and mice, the researchers discovered that LY6A encodes a homologous protein of mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1, which is abnormally expressed in pituitary tumors. The study was published in Frontiers of Medicine (DOI: 10.1007/s11684-022-0968-4).

By conducting systematic searches and comparative genomic analyses, the researchers identified 37 human and 64 mouse LU domain genes, totaling 130 LU domains. The novel gene LY6A was found in the human chromosome 8q24.3 region, exhibiting collinearity with the region containing the mouse Ly6a gene, and is considered a candidate for encoding the homologous protein of mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1.

The researchers cloned the full-length cDNA of LY6A and analyzed its expression, finding that it is abnormally overexpressed in pituitary tumors, while showing no or low expression in normal pituitary tissues. Further studies indicated that LY6A expression can be induced by interferon (IFN) and is highly expressed in the spleen, testes, and certain adipose tissues.

Functional studies demonstrated that the protein encoded by LY6A is highly conserved in sequence, domain structure, and exon-intron organization compared to mouse Ly6a family members, and it can be correctly expressed, processed, and anchored to the cell membrane. Cells overexpressing LY6A exhibited slightly enhanced proliferative capacity. Additionally, the study identified a high-frequency nonsynonymous coding single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in LY6A, with allele frequency differences observed across various ethnic groups.

This research marks the first identification and cloning of the human LY6A gene, providing critical insights into the evolution, expression, and function of Ly-6 family genes, as well as serving as an important model for exploring gene regulation and evolutionary mechanisms. The abnormal expression of LY6A in pituitary tumors suggests its potential as a candidate biomarker for cancer diagnosis and treatment, paving new avenues for future cancer research and therapy.

  • Simone Bellotti makes his first move at Jil Sander

Simone Bellotti makes his first move at Jil Sander

“Jil Sander has a definite style — that’s why it’s still so loved, admired, and respected,” said Bellotti when asked about the brand’s place in today’s crowded, hyper-competitive fashion Welt. With many labels pivoting toward stylish wearability to grab attention, and just as many copycats scrambling for a slice of the market, how does a brand that practically wrote the blueprint for chic minimalism stay relevant? Bellotti revealed little about how his vision will unfold, but he acknowledged an affinity for a sensibility leaning toward restraint — a surprising admission, perhaps, given his 14-year tenure at Gucci under the maximalist reigns of Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele. Yet his conceptual and artistic bedrocks were actually laid elsewhere, and his telescope points towards the North.

Bellotti began his fashion journey in Antwerp, where he interned at AF Vandevorst. “I liked everything about that aesthetic,” he recalls. “While everyone else was heading to London, for me it was Antwerp, no hesitation, back in 2001.” Returning to Milan, he sought out experiences that would sharpen his architectural eye: first with the avant-garde, ultra-niche Austrian designer Carol Christian Poell — “an absolute genius, radical, extreme in his existential tailoring” — and then with Gianfranco Ferré, famously dubbed the architect of fashion for his sculptural precision. All of which is to say: Bellotti is a designer who values strong, clear foundations. And that, in itself, is a kind of symmetry with the spirit of Jil Sander, an intelligent house built on purity and conviction, designed by a woman of elegant, intense allure.

Yet there’s an unmistakable emotional undercurrent to Bellotti’s design approach, something his tenure at Bally made abundantly clear. There, he didn’t just revive a heritage Swiss brand with scant fashion credibility; he imbued it with a kind of esoteric naturalism, a magic realism drawn from obscure, fascinating Swiss traditions. The result was an unexpected blend of rationality and oddity, where precision of design met narrative finesse, and modernity brushed up against folklore.

“Jil Sander is a brand with a soul,” Bellotti reflects. “It’s a complex house, one that holds within it extreme classicism, something very modern, and a kind of weightless lightness.” He speaks with reverence for the brand’s emphasis on research and quality, especially the kind of meticulous experimentation that isn’t immediately visible: hidden details, textures that appear heavy but reveal themselves to be featherlight, illusions built on precision.

“It’s a brand that has lived a long life,” Bellotti mused in his characteristically hushed, almost oracular tone. “And every designer who’s passed through its doors has helped uphold its high reputation.” Where Bellotti will take it next, and which corners of the fashion Welt he’ll explore, remains to be seen. But one suspects he won’t tread the obvious path.
