Breakthrough in Humaira Asghar case as police unlock electronic devices
Police investigating the mysterious death of actress Humaira Asghar have made significant progress after successfully unlocking her electronic gadgets, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to officials, three mobile phones, a tablet, and a laptop belonging to the late actress were accessed with the help of a handwritten diary found at the scene, which contained all the relevant passwords.
The devices are now undergoing forensic analysis to trace the actress’s digital footprint, communication history, and online activity.
“We have recorded statements from two individuals and summoned two more for questioning,” police said, adding that Humaira maintained regular contact with a few people in her final days.
Initial investigations revealed that Humaira Asghar was a regular visitor to a gym and beauty salon. Her gym trainer and other associated individuals will also be approached as part of the probe.
“We are also reviewing her financial activity by analysing her bank accounts,” a senior officer confirmed.

Indian basketball team beats Kazakhstan 85-68 in opener
In the third quarter, the Indian team continued to build on the momentum gained in the second and increased their advantage to 69-47 by the end of the penultimate period.
The final quarter saw India, sitting pretty with a handy lead, take their foot off the pedal slightly, allowing the Kazakhstan women’s basketball team more time in the offensive third.
Though the Kazahs outscored the Indians in the fourth period, it was only enough to reduce their margin of defeat.
The Indian basketball team will face world No. 6 Chinese Taipei, who beat Tahiti 122-38 in their opening match, in its next FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 Division B match on Monday.
A total of eight teams, divided into two groups, are competing in Division B of the 31st FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. India have been drawn in Group A with Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and Tahiti.
After round robin matches, the two group toppers will qualify directly for the semi-finals, while the second and third-placed teams from each group will compete in the playoffs for the other two spots in the semis.
The team that eventually wins the Division B final will be promoted to Division A for the next edition.

French prisoner escapes in fellow inmate’s bag, officials say
A man has escaped a French prison by hiding in the bag of a fellow inmate who was leaving prison after serving their sentence, officials told local media.
The prison service has launched an investigation after the man escaped from Lyon-Corbas prison in south-east France on Friday, according to broadcaster BFMTV.
He “took advantage of the liberation of his fellow inmate to hide himself in his luggage and get out”, the prison service said in a statement to AFP news agency.
French media have reported that the escaped prisoner was serving several sentences and was also under investigation in a case linked to organised crime.
A judicial investigation has also been opened into possible “escape as part of an organised gang and criminal conspiracy”, according to local media.
Last month, the Lyon Bar Association expressed alarm about overcrowding at the Lyon-Corbas prison.
As of 1 May 2025, around 1,200 people were detained in the prison, which has capacity for 678 places, BFMTV had reported.

Another Longtime Intel Linux Engineer Leaves The Company
Amid Intel’s ongoing financial difficulties and multiple rounds of layoffs some Linux engineers at Intel left last year and there’s been at least one prominent departure this week amid the latest round of challenges at the company.
Kirill Shutemov has left Intel. After 14 years working at Intel on various areas of the Linux kernel, he’s leaving the company. Most recently Shutemov was working on areas like Linear Address Space Separation (LASS) and other memory management areas within the kernel. He was also heavily involved with Intel’s TDX upstream enablement for Trust Domain Extensions. Plus over the past fourteen years various other projects and more in contributing to the mainline Linux kernel for Intel.
I became curious earlier this week after this patch series by Kirill Shutemov where he was updating his email address to no longer use his Intel email address but rather his kernel.org email address. At least for now Kirill Shutemov is still serving as the official maintainer of the Trust Domain Extensions code within the mainline kernel albeit now from his personal email address.
Yesterday he confirmed my suspicions from that patch series that he was leaving Intel. He confirmed on LinkedIn that it was his last day at Intel after 14 years at the company working on Linux. He will be joining another company at the end of the month. We’ll see where he is heading to and hopefully continuing his Linux expertise.

Lahore man apologises over viral offensive video against Punjab govt
A Lahore man has tendered apology for using offensive language against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and other high-ranking officials.
The apology came after police arrested him over his viral video on social media, wherein he can be seen using offensive language against the provincial administration.
The video, recorded during recent heavy rainfall in Lahore, showed the elderly man expressing frustration over the city’s poor drainage system.
In the footage, he can be heard criticising the provincial administration and using abusive language directed at high-ranking government figures.
Following his arrest, the man also issued an apology and expressed regret for his actions, saying: “I apologise to the Government of Pakistan for my actions.”
Heavy rainfall in Lahore on Thursday caused widespread disruption and submerged low-lying areas. The downpour began around 5:00am and lasted until approximately 11:30am.
A boy was electrocuted while bathing in rainwater that had accumulated in a vacant plot near the city’s Lari Adda.
Nishtar Town recorded the heaviest rainfall in the city, with 182mm, while water entered homes in several areas, including Dharampura, Shah Jamal, Choburji, and surrounding neighbourhoods. Many vehicles and motorcycles were left stranded in deep water, particularly in underpasses and along major roads.
In a weather advisory, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said monsoon rains would continue until July 13.
According to the latest figures released by the NDMA on Saturday, the death toll from monsoon rains and floods has risen to 104.

Williams thrilled to be back as Boks wrap up Italian job in style
The quicksilver scrumhalf was one of the stand-out players in the Boks’ emphatic 45-0 victory against Italy in Gqeberha on Saturday in their second Castle Lager Incoming Series Test.
A new-look Bok team were in fine form, scoring seven tries and holding Italy scoreless, despite losing No 8 Jasper Wiese with a red card in the 22nd minute. Early in the second half, they were reduced to 13 men when Wilco Louw was yellow carded in the 44th minute.
The win followed on a 54-7 victory against the Barbarians in Cape Town and a 42-24 victory against Italy in Pretoria on 5 July.
The match was not only significant for new Springbok centurion Willie le Roux and the three debutants – Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Cobus Wiese, and Ethan Hooker – but also for Williams who made a strong statement in his first game back from a long injury layoff.
Commenting on his comeback, Williams quipped: “I wish I could have played for the Sharks first. There was a bit of nerves this week after a frustrating three months, but I’m happy we got the win and personally to be able to play again. There was obviously a little rust, but I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks.”
Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Ethan Hooker, and Cobus Wiese.
However, the nippy scrumhalf admitted that the nerves wore off after touching down for the first try of the match in the eighth minute: “I think I was calm after that. It was great to score a try, even though it was Willie’s try that I took. My mindset last week was all about getting on the field and ensuring that I nail I the detail, but I’m happy for the team and about the result.”
Asked what made his halfback combination with flyhalf Manie Libbok seem so seamless and natural, Williams said he enjoyed playing with all the flyhalves in the squad.
“It’s not just like that with Manie,” said Williams. “It’s the same with Sacha (Feinberg-Mngomezulu), Handre (Pollard), Manie and Damian (Willemse). There’s a plan for every game, and this week the strategy was to try a few things, and it worked.
“It’s always special to play with Manie. We have a great relationship, but at the same time, it doesn’t matter who I play alongside.”
Responding to how much of a challenge the red card was to the team, Williams was casual in his response: “It’s always difficult to get a red card, but if you know coach Rassie (Erasmus), there’s always a plan, so we were well prepared for a card, which happened to be the case in the match.”
The Springboks made the trip from Gqeberha to Nelspruit via Johannesburg on Sunday and will return to the training field on Monday to begin their preparations for the closing match of the series against Georgia at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
