Thiago Sucatzky ties all-time assist record

LAUSANNE (Switzerland) – Thiago Sucatzky etched his name in the record books of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 as the Argentina point guard dished out 14 assists, tying the all-time high in competition history.

“Thanks to my teammates for trusting me in the whole process,” said Sukatzky after the game. “Without them I couldn’t do anything.”

Sucatzky also chipped in 14 points and 3 rebounds in Argentina’s 85-67 win over Cameroon in Classification 9-16 action.

The resemblance to another Argentinian star floor general is uncanny – and no coincidence.

“Facundo Campazzo is my idol. When I was a kid I always watched him and wanted to be like him.”

Sucatzky had dished out a total of 16 assists in Argentina’s first four games, highlighted by 8 in their win over Serbia.

The record is shared by France’s Alexandre Bouzidi set in 2023 against Madagascar.

  • At least 27 Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israeli forces since dawn

At least 27 Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israeli forces since dawn

    Listen to article

At least 27 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since dawn, according to medical sources.

Hospital officials told Al Jazeera that five of the victims were shot near an aid distribution point north of Rafah in southern Gaza.

Earlier, at least 15 people were killed when Israeli airstrikes targeted tents sheltering displaced residents in the al-Mawasi area, close to Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that it would probably be known within 24 hours how Hamas will respond to a proposed ceasefire deal with Israel in Gaza, Reuters reports

Trump stated earlier this week that Israel has agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire. He urged the Palestinian group Hamas to accept the deal promptly, warning that the situation could deteriorate further if the offer is rejected.

“We’ll probably know in 24 hours what Hamas decides,” Trump told reporters, without giving further details.

The announcement comes ahead of Trump’s scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday. The leaders are expected to discuss the truce proposal and ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.

    60-day ceasefire proposal

Hamas said on Wednesday it was studying what US President Donald Trump called a “final” ceasefire proposal for Gaza but that Israel must pull out of the enclave.

In a statement, the Palestinian group said it was studying new ceasefire offers received from mediators Egypt and Qatar but that it aimed to reach an agreement that would ensure an end to the war and an Israeli pullout from Gaza.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu called for the elimination of Hamas in his first public remarks since Trump’s announcement.

“There will not be a Hamas. There will not be a ‘Hamastan’. We’re not going back to that. It’s over,” Netanyahu told a meeting hosted by the Trans-Israel pipeline.

The two sides’ statements reiterated long-held positions, giving no clues as to whether or how a compromise agreement could be reached.

    Israel’s war on Gaza

The Israeli army has launched a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing at least 57,012 Palestinians, including 134,592 children. More than 111,588 people have been injured, and over 14,222 are missing and presumed dead.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

The proposed deal includes a pause in hostilities, increased humanitarian aid, and negotiations on the release of captives.

  • World Triathlon trials new RaceRanger Officiating App

World Triathlon trials new RaceRanger Officiating App

World Triathlon, in partnership with RaceRanger, is proud to unveil the trial phase of the new RaceRanger App — a powerful digital platform set to transform race management and officiating across the global triathlon ecosystem.

For years, officiating at triathlon events has depended on radios, chat groups, and manual paperwork — a fragmented system for a sport that thrives on precision. With the introduction of the RaceRanger App, World Triathlon is moving decisively to modernise how events are run, bringing cutting-edge tools to the fingertips of technical officials, emergency services, commentators, and team managers worldwide.

The app, currently in trial at selected World Triathlon events (Alghero WTCS, Tiszaújváros World Cup, and Hamburg WTCS), centralises live communications, incident reporting, and penalty management into one mobile-based interface. It features real-time AI voice input recognition across dozens of languages and is built for adaptability across different event formats and sizes. Although the information is collected and distributed onsite, external partners like commentators can access the content in real time even if they are not present at the race.

‘At World Triathlon, innovation isn’t a slogan — it’s a commitment,’ said Antonio Arimany, President of World Triathlon. ‘This app is another milestone in our ongoing effort to empower event organisers, raise the standard of officiating, and reinforce our role as both regulator and enabler of triathlon globally.’

Already known for its revolutionary on-bike drafting detection system, RaceRanger’s latest development takes officiating a step further. As Co-Founder and CEO James Elvery explains, this is only the beginning:

“We’re now working on enabling real-time transmission of athlete positioning and drafting data from the bike to the app. This will sharpen officiating accuracy and deter drafting violations more effectively than ever — especially in non-drafting formats where monitoring has always been a challenge. It also opens the possibility of centrally alerting the race organisation when athletes have stopped or departed the course, which will be a huge safety improvement for the management of races.” he explained.

The app will be usable with or without the RaceRanger on-bike hardware, ensuring accessibility for a wide spectrum of events. A formal launch for private organisers and National Federations is planned for October 2025, with tiered access options including premium functionality for larger or more complex races.

What this means for the sport

For event organisers: An officiating model that is scalable, digital, and commercially viable — reducing overheads while improving control and transparency.

For athletes: More consistent rule enforcement, safer courses, and greater trust in officiating integrity.

For fans and media: Enhanced storytelling potential through real-time data integration and improved race context.

For National Federations and private race series: A tangible tool to professionalise operations and elevate the triathlon experience for all.

This launch is a direct expression of World Triathlon’s vision: building a modern, open, and commercially sustainable sport — where technology, governance, and growth go hand in hand.

Actors John Cena and Idris Elba team up for buddy movie Heads Of State

LONDON – John Cena and Idris Elba embark on a wild friendship journey in the action-adventure comedy Heads Of State.

American actor Cena plays Hollywood action hero turned US President Will Derringer, while English actor Elba stars as the experienced and cranky British Prime Minister Sam Clarke, an army veteran. When a tense meeting between the two disparate leaders is followed by an attack that threatens to blow up the world order, they must come together to save the day.

The pair, who also executive produced the movie that is showing on Prime Video, previously worked together on the 2021 superhero film The Suicide Squad.

“Honestly, our time on screen is effortless. He brings the best out of me and, in his words, I try to do my best to provide an environment where he can shine,” Cena said at Heads Of State’s London premiere on July 1.

“I love the friendship nature of this film,” he added.

The movie is directed by Russian film-maker and musician Ilya Naishuller (Nobody, 2021), who said Cena, 48, and Elba, 52, brought a realness to their roles.

“They feed off each other as any good couple would, and they know how to argue together in such a way where this is the perfect combination of the American happy-go-lucky, optimistic president and the prime minister who is real about the job and how difficult it is,” said Naishuller, 41, adding he set out to make a summer blockbuster in the vein of the buddy action comedies of the 1980s and 90s.

“The goal was, I want to do an hour and 45 (minutes) of the highest quality entertainment I can do and just do a crowd-pleaser and make sure that the people sitting at home on July the 4th are going to be united and having a great time,” he said, referencing the United States’ Independence Day.

Heads Of State also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the role of the pun-loving top MI6 agent Noel Bisset.

  • The Summer Work Bags Vogue Editors Use Everyday

The Summer Work Bags Vogue Editors Use Everyday

There are a few wardrobe staples that can make a break a workwear outfit, especially when being fashion-forward (yet functional) is the main objective. Chief among them are the right shoe, be it a walkable sandal or stylish sneaker, the perfect trousers, both for comfort and for commuting, and the right work bag.

    Vogue’s Favorite Summer Work Bags:

Styles that balances practicality with personality are key, and the totes you’ll find perched by our desks blend polished design with real-world utility—fitting laptops, notebooks, beauty essentials, and even a pair of kitten heels for post-office events and meetings. They need to be spacious, but not too big for lugging onto the train, nor too heavy to carry up several flights of stairs. And, they need to be on-trend without being overtly so—who wants to damage a precious new piece?

Some prefer a designer from a specific era, like Phoebe Philo’s Celine—a legacy shaped over ten years, from 2008 to 2017. Others would take anything from Mary-Kate and Ashley’s The Row, a coveted brand known for the longevity and timelessness of its accessories. Think of buttery leathers, clean lines, and subtle luxury—bags that whisper style rather than shout it. Whether it’s a structured top-handle bag or a slouchy bucket style, these carryalls reflect the editor’s curated life: always sophisticated and always prepared to work.

Ahead, shop the summer work bags that Vogue editors use for the office, and beyond.

Libby Page, Vogue executive shopping director

I am a true Phoebe fan and am forever scouring for her oldie-but-goodie heritage bags. In the summer, I wear a lot of white cotton, and I love the way this burgundy style will pop against any full-white look. It’s sturdy and very roomy for a crossbody bag, perfect for work. The two-tone tote I have had on my wish list since well…2010, when it launched, between this and the Bottega Andiamo, they’re the perfect laptop-friendly-but-still-chic bags! Lastly, this little Loewe. I hate riffling through handbags for keys, wallet, phone, cash, so I’ll throw them across my body to have them easily accessible.

For the days you don’t need to carry a computer, The Row’s Park tote in small is the perfect little bucket bag. With an open top and roomy interior, it fits all of your everyday necessities and can take you from day to night because while it’s tote-shape, it doesn’t come across as a 9-to-5 commuter bag. I love this green shade, we shot the larger size for a springaccessory story a few seasons back and have had my eye on it ever since. The Hermès Garden Party tote, however, will forever be on my wish list. It’s timeless, classic, and does fit that laptop.

I’ve never been a small bag kind of gal—if anything, the bigger the better! My work bags have quickly transitioned into my everyday bags thanks to my desire to carry everything dear to me. Whether I have a brand dinner after work or a Pilates reformer class beforehand, I’d rather strengthen my shoulders than carry several bags at once. Vintage Bottega Veneta bags are my thing—I own several shoulder bags and totes already. There’s plenty of room inside for a pair of emergency ballet flats, an army of lip glosses, sunglasses, my laptop, and a pair of leggings, if needed. The same can be said for Khaite’s Frida tote—it’s the perfect shape for a small computer.

July 4-10 Sky Watch: Earth-Aphelion, Moon & More

First Quarter moon offers prime viewing opportunities nationwide as Earth experiences aphelion (farthest point from the sun) during summer; don’t miss the stunning Moon-Mars conjunction and Saturn’s tilted rings visible through backyard telescopes.

    First-Quarter Moon & Mars-Regulus Cosmic Pairing

Earth’s Little Secret: Farthest From The Sun During Summer?

Okay, I simply can’t start this week’s sky guide without addressing yesterday’s cosmic irony (which our Senior Editorial Writer Chris DeWeese brilliantly unpacked in yesterday’s Morning Brief): Earth just reached aphelion — our farthest point from the sun all year! That’s right — we’re literally 94.5 million miles from our star during what’s peak summer heat for half the world. Talk about counterintuitive!

The real summer hero? That sassy 23.5-degree tilt our planet maintains. While we’re distance-wise playing hard-to-get with the sun, the Northern Hemisphere is actually flirting shamelessly — tilted toward those solar rays, soaking up direct sunlight for longer days. So next time someone complains about the heat, you can smile knowingly and drop this little astronomical truth bomb.

Now, on to the week ahead…

    First Quarter Moon (July 5)

Half shadowed, half illuminated — our moon at its most dramatically two-faced. This phase offers the perfect balance of brightness and shadow, making the lunar landscape pop in remarkable 3D detail along the terminator line (that’s the wonderfully astro-geek term for where light meets dark on the lunar surface).

    • When to Watch: Early evening until midnight
    • Pro Tip: This is actually the best time to observe the moon with binoculars or a small telescope — the full moon might seem more impressive, but it’s actually too bright and flat for good detail. The shadows along crater rims during first quarter are simply chef’s kiss.

    Mars-Regulus Close Approach (July 6-7)

The red planet moves exceptionally close to Leo’s brightest star, creating a striking color contrast between Mars’ reddish hue and Regulus’ blue-white brilliance.

    • When to Watch: Western sky after sunset
    • Pro Tip: Easily visible to the naked eye; no equipment needed.

Mercury’s Brief Spotlight Moment (July 7)

Mercury is basically the celestial equivalent of that friend who always cancels plans — elusive and hard to pin down. But this week offers a rare opportunity as it reaches greatest western elongation (its maximum apparent distance from the sun). It’s still a challenge, but if you’ve never spotted Mercury before, this is your moment.

    • When to Watch: 45 minutes before sunrise, eastern horizon
    • Pro Tip: Requires clear eastern horizon; binoculars helpful but not necessary.

    Mercury, just before sunrise.

Moon & Mars Conjunction (July 8)

The waxing gibbous moon photobombs Mars on July 8, creating one of the week’s most photographable moments. The contrast between the bright moon and the subtler red planet creates a composition that practically begs to be shared on your social media of choice.

    • When to Watch: Early evening, western sky
    • Pro Tip: This is a perfect smartphone photography opportunity. Use night mode and tap to focus on the moon.

    Other Celestial Highlights

Saturn: Visible after midnight in Aquarius with well-tilted rings for telescope viewing

    • When to Watch: After midnight until dawn, southern sky

Venus: Continues as brilliant morning star in the eastern pre-dawn sky

    • When to Watch: 1-2 hours before sunrise

Milky Way Core: Rising in the southeast, best seen from dark-sky locations

    • When to Watch: Late evening until dawn
    • Pro Tip: Light pollution significantly reduces visibility; worth traveling to darker skies.

    Deep-Sky Objects for Binoculars/Telescopes

    • Hercules Cluster (M13): Globular cluster high overhead
    • Ring Nebula (M57): Planetary nebula in Lyra, visible with telescopes
    • Beehive Cluster (M44): Open star cluster in Cancer, excellent for binoculars

  • Fairphone 6 gets a 10/10 on repairability

    Fairphone 6 gets a 10/10 on repairability

The new Fairphone 6 is smaller and more modular than older models in the series, but it’s just as repairable. The phone picked up a perfect score in iFixit’s teardown test, despite no longer offering tool-free battery replacements.

It helps that the only tool you do need — throughout the phone — is a T5 Torx screwdriver, and only seven screws sit between you and a battery swap. Fairphone itself has shown you can get from shutdown to reboot with a new cell in just two minutes, so it’s still a simple swap. The company says that the screws are required for the slimmer soft-pouch battery.

The only glue throughout is found on the phone’s mainboard, which is just about the only repair Fairphone doesn’t recommend you make yourself: almost everything else, from the USB-C port to the individual camera sensors, can be replaced with minimal effort. Replacement parts will be available from Fairphone and iFixit, and the phone’s replaceable backplate also enables a line of swappable accessories similar to those found on the CMF Phone Pro 2.

iFixit also rated the phone highly for its IP55 rating — not the best around, but impressive for a phone sealed with screws rather than glue — and for the company’s longterm support. Fairphone is guaranteeing seven years of Android OS updates and eight years of security patches, with a five-year warranty and a loyalty program that rewards you for hanging onto your phone and repairing it.

Despite the high score, iFixit acknowledges that you do compromise on specs by opting for the Fairphone 6. Its dual rear camera is fairly basic, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7S Gen 3 chipset is no powerhouse. Even the USB port is limited to sluggish USB 2.0, though the 6.3-inch 10-120Hz LTPO OLED display is more impressive.

This isn’t the first Fairphone to fare so well. Every model since the Fairphone 2 has received a 10/10 in iFixit’s teardown tests, a score that no other phone has ever managed. The Fairphone 6 is available now in Europe for €599 (around $705), from Fairphone and other retailers. It costs considerably more in the US, at $899, where it’s only available from Murena and ships running /e/OS, Murena’s privacy-focused and de-Googled take on Android. It’s available to preorder now, and ships in August.
